Traveler’s Reviews of the Whole Earth Restaurant, Chiang Mai

Whole Earth Restaurant

Rating: ★★★★★

A must when coming to Chiang Mai. I travel a lot in Asia and this is one of the best restaurants I know. Staying in Chiang Mai and not dining at Whole Earth is like going to Paris and not noticing the Seine.
The menu is vegetarian with some meat dishes. The watermelon shake is not oversweat as in many other Thai restaurants. Some spectacular soups and excellent starters.
I used to come here and tell the lady who welcomed me how hungry I was. Never did I look at the menu during my first stay in Chiang Mai. My last day the cook made a special dish for me.
The Whole Earth Restaurant staff is very warm and welcoming, most of them speak sufficient english. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed and not as formal as in many other upmarket restaurants in Asia.
If you are looking for a light meal, try the chicken with cashew nut. You will know how this “easy” dish has to taste.
Try to book a corner table on the outside veranda. It might not be easy the period I am there, but you can try. Inside is for those strange people who go to Thailand and like to sit in an air conditioned room.
Prices at the Whole Earth Restaurant are as they should be. You will find cheaper in Chiang Mai but it will take a few trips to find better and cheaper.

Great food, just a little expensive

Rating: ★★★★☆

Whole Earth Restaurant has an extensive menu in a great old house. Food was very good we sticked to their vegetarian specialties. Service was excellant. Kids were kept amused watching the squirrels in the nearby trees. All of this comes at a price though 2 adults and 2 kids food and drink at lunch around 1500B.

Atmospheric and tasty experience

Rating: ★★★★★

We walked to the Whole Earth Restaurant from our Hotel the D2 and were greeted by restful gardens and lights at night. The eating area was tasteful and busy but there was still time for a proper greeting once inside. Our service was good and attentive and the food, we choose from a wide range of dishes, was really excellent. The views at night through 360 degrees of windows was brilliant. Our parties tastes varied from non adventurous to hot and spicy and all in all we each enjoyed our choices. Excellent value and great ambiance.

Excellent food, both Indian and Thai

Rating: ★★★★★

One of our best meals in Thailand on our two week trip. Unassuming and quiet and very very reasonably priced. Delicious food – we had both Indian and Thai and loved the food. Whole Earth Restaurant is highly recommend!
