Koh Nang Yuan

Koh Nang Yuan is a pristine island located just off the north west corner of Ko Tao.  As Ko Nang Yuan is a private island, day tripping visitors need to pay an admission fee (currently 100baht) to gain entry to the island. Guests staying at the islands resort do not pay this landing fee.

Sadly, staying at the Koh Nang Yuan resort gets mixed reviews, with comments like over priced, unfriendly staff and poor food not at all uncommon.  One benefit of staying on the island is that you have access to a private beach area with sun loungers.  The remaining beach areas become very crowded once all the day trippers arrive from either Koh Samui or Koh Tao.

The sandbar offers little shade and can get very crowded during the afternoon.

There is some great snorkeling in the stunningly clear turquoise waters around Koh Nang Yuan and at the Japanese Gardens, which is one of the bays created by the islands. If you take an around the island (Koh Tao) snorkeling trip they will drop you off at the Japanese Gardens for an hour of spectacular snorkeling and photo opportunities.  If you choose to not go ashore there is no requirement to pay the 100baht landing fees.

Caution is needed using the walkways

For a great view of Koh Nang Yuan you can climb up to the lookout which takes approximately 25 minutes. Simply follow the signs around the rocks that point towards the Viewpoint for some excellent views and great photo opportunities.
