Coral Island Guide – Phuket

Coral Island, locally known as Koh Hae, is a breathtakingly beautiful tropical escape destination and is located only nine kilometres south east of Phuket island. The island features two main white sandy beaches beaches, namely Long Beach and Banana Beach. The snorkeling off Banana Beach is magnificent With an impressive coral reef a short way out.

How to Get to Coral Island?

You can rent long tailboats from Rawai beach and Chalong pier. In addition you can book scuba and snorkelling tours to Coral Island. The trips start with a 15 minute speed boat ride, then you are provided with full scuba equipment and a buffet lunch. The cost of a snorkelling and scuba trip is approximately 1000 baht per day.

If you land at Long Beach and want to check out Banana Beach there is a path at the eastern end of the beach that leads through the jungle. Walking time is around 15 minutes and it is advisable to wear good shoes as surfaces are uneven and the going not exactly easy. This path is not recommended for the elderly or small children.

Facilities on the Coral Island

At night this Coral Island is beautifully calm, although by day it can be quite busy with day trippers. Deck chairs and sun loungers can be hired and come free (at the resort) with the day tour.

There’s plenty of things to do on Coral Island such as canoeing, banana boating, parasailing, fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

  1. We did a day trip to Coral island earlier this year and it was magnificent. The snorkeling off the beach is something not to be missed

  2. Sue, if you get a chance next time stay for a few days. The island takes on a different character after the day boats leave and the sun starts to set.
