Phuket Chinese New Year – February

Chinese New Year

Phuket has a large Chinese population, so Chinese New Year is always a fun time. Most of the action takes place in Phuket City and its Chinese temples and shrines, where you can expect to see street Lion dances, parades and shows. Chinese New Year is also a great time to sample some delicious Chinese food.


Phuket Blues Festival (26-27 Feb 2010)

The festival is a charity event with funds donated to organisations dedicated to local children’s education. For 2010 the Festival will support the Rotary Club of Patong and its local education program. The event has grown in popularity and seems to get bigger each year

The Phuket Food Festival is an annual event organised by the Phuket Food Vendors Club and Phuket City Municipality.



Phuket Songkran – April

Songkran is celebrated across Thailand in the hot April weather. Water fights break out around the island and it’s virtually impossible to go anywhere without people drenching bikers and cars with buckers of water. Patong and Phuket city are the best places to experience the excitement of Songkran. If you want to join in the festivities you should arm yourself with a water pistol, a sense of humour and a waterproof bag for your camera.

The annual Phuket Bike Week is one of the biggest motorcycle events in Southeast Asia and is scheduled to coincide with Songkran each year.


Phuket International Rugby 10s – May

The Phuket Vegetarian Festival – October

Phuket Vegetarian Festival

The Phuket Vegetarian Festival is a colourful event held over a nine-day period in late September/early October.  Sacred rituals are performed at various Chinese shrines and temples and aesthetic displays such as walking barefooted over hot coals and ascending ladders with bladed rungs are performed by entranced devotees known as “Ma Song”.


Phuket Loy Krathong – November

Phuket Loy Krathong

Loy Krathong is celebrated on the full moon in November each year. During this time Phuket residents send off thousands of krathongs into Phuket’s waterways. The Krathongs are traditionally made from banana leaves and the floating of a krathong is said to take your bad luck away.


Phuket King’s Cup Regatta – December

The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is Asia’s biggest and most popular regatta. More than a regatta, the week long event consists of great parties, great sailing and lots of fun.
